• The Salvation
Army Los Angeles Daycare Center is one of the oldest day care
facilities in the city. Opened in 1920 for mothers working
to assist the war effort, L.A. Daycare now serves up to 250
children each day of parents employed in the downtown L.A.
garment and produce districts.
• On
any given night, The Salvation Army’s shelter
in the city of Bell serves 350 men and women, making it one
of the largest homeless care facilities in the nation. In addition,
a new mental health assessment program at Bell Shelter will
serve 240 homeless men and women who are mentally ill or dual
diagnosed with mental illness and substance abuse.

Army Adult Rehabilitation Centers nationwide annually help
more than 200,000 men and women from every walk of life fight
substance abuse and return to their communities as contributing
members.

Southern California, The Salvation Army operates seven “Silvercrest” residences
for low-income seniors.

youth who sleep on the streets of Los Angeles each night.
• Every summer,
thousands of inner-city youth get a taste of the great outdoors
at The Salvation Army camps in the Malibu Mountains.

Army Alegria in Silverlake is a one-of-a-kind program, providing
housing, licensed day care, meals and healthcare services for
homeless and low-income families affected by HIV/AIDS.
